What are the differences between the version and the version of the series? There are two anime adaptations of Kanon, one from by Toei Animation with 13 episodes plus one OVA , and one from by Kyoto Animation with 24 episodes. Both of them are based on the visual novel by Key. The most obvious difference between the two is the artwork.
The version was fairly close to the artwork from the VN. In contrast, the anime was with KyoAni's own style, which is more similar to their previous anime Air than to the original Kanon artwork.
I think most people would say that has the better animation quality. The soundtracks of the two are understandably also different. In terms of theme songs, the version used remixed versions the original songs from the VN, while the version used new songs.
The voice actors are the same with the exception of Yuichi and Kuze. In terms of plot, there are going to be many small differences. The one had 11 more episodes than the one, so understandably there is more content there. Both are very close to the VN, but the one stripped out a lot of extraneous content and condensed a lot of necessary content to the point that it created some plot holes. The content that was removed had a lot of comedy, so the version comes off as more of a drama than the one.
The one difference that I definitely noticed is that Mai's story in the version was greatly condensed to the point of not making sense, while it's quite well-paced and understandable in the version. Overall, the big differences are that with the version, you just don't get as much of the story, and it goes somewhat faster. The version is supposedly to be the better version. As other people said, there is no sequel and you don't need to watch one to watch the other.
They both have their strengths in my opinion. Kanon has a more serious tone and it cuts out some unnecessary scenes.
Kanon is more light-hearted a little too much at some points, in my opinion , but it does a much better job with some of the character arcs that were either cut out completely or sped through in the version.
Yep definitely, my favourite anime of all time. It's actually better you only watch the version so every plot point is a surprise. You can watch it or no watch it your choice I would watch both to see which one is better for myself.

I enjoyed Clannad slightly more than Kanon, but Kanon was still fantastic. Angel Beats is good too. Don't watch Air though, it's dreadful. More topics from this board Any good edgy LN's to buy?
